The Washington Capitals have moved on from a fan favorite.

Nic Dowd has been traded away.

Dowd was traded Thursday to the Vegas Golden Knights in a deal announced on X by the Capitals:

"The Washington Capitals have acquired a second-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft, a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft (originally from San Jose) and goaltender Jesper Vikman from the Vegas Golden Knights for forward Nic Dowd."

That's some future-looking assets for a 35-year old center.

Dowd, though, was clearly beloved by some Caps fans, and now he is sent away. He'll be useful for Vegas as a bottom-six center.

The reliable middle man has played 55 games this season and has four goals with 12 assists. He also has 113 hits and 43 blocked shots.

Dowd has been with the Capitals since the 2018-19 season, having played 506 games with the Caps.

In total, including time with the Kings and Canucks, Dowd has appeared in 637 NHL games and has 88 goals and 104 assists (192 points) in his career.

He entered the league all the way back in 2009 in the seventh round of the draft to the Kings.

He's the rare NHL player from Alabama, too, and he played his college hockey at St. Cloud State.

Now, his hockey journey takes him to Las Vegas, where he'll join a contending club with the hopes of making some playoff noise.
