Brian Barry-Murphy is expecting Cardiff City's toughest test of the season against League One title rivals Lincoln City on Saturday (12:30 GMT).

Both sides are favourites for automatic promotion to the Championship, with only a single point separating leaders Cardiff and second placed Lincoln.

After relegation last season, the Welsh club have been top of the table for much of this campaign and have lost only one of their past 14 games - a shock 5-2 defeat at Plymouth last month, before bouncing back with a 4-0 win at Doncaster.

The Imps are unbeaten in 17 matches, a run which included a 2-1 win against the Bluebirds in December.

"It's going to be as tough as it gets because of how good the opponents are," said Barry-Murphy.

"We faced them early in the season and got an insight into how good they are and how difficult the game is likely to be."

Barry-Murphy described Saturday's opponents as "underrated" but said he is not after revenge for December's defeat at Sincil Bank.

"They have brilliant players all over the pitch and a highly technical team of players who can impact the game in so many different ways," added the Bluebirds boss.

"So fully aware of all their strengths, have the highest respect and regard for what they have done and what they do, but we are pretty good ourselves and our form at home has been good so it is a brilliant game to look forward to."

Bumper crowd adds 'excitement'

The Bluebirds are expecting their highest League One attendance of the season against Lincoln with over 25,000 tickets already sold for Saturday's game.

Cardiff's average league attendance is just over 19,000 and Barry-Murphy thinks that extra numbers in the stands will boost his squad for the lunchtime kick-off.

"There will be heightened excitement, the players are flying in training and this week has been brilliant for us," he added.

"It gives them great pride and satisfaction to know that so many supporters are coming to watch them based on what they have done [this season].

"There is real excitement around the club the players have generated along with the supporters.

"They deserve the chance to try and play and win in front of them on Saturday."
