WHITNEY, Texas (FOX 44) — After spending Thursday and Friday at Lake Whitney, Major League Fishing (MLF) is making their way to Lake Waco on Saturday and Sunday.

The MLF Bass Pro Tour made their way into Central Texas waters for the third stop of their season. This was the first professional visit home for Lorena’s father-son duo, Alton Jones Sr. and Alton Jones Jr. Jones Sr. says that fishing in these waters again is an amazing feeling.

“It’s pretty neat thing,” said Jones Sr. “This is the lake I cut my teeth on. It’s interesting to see all the top guys in the world that we fish against all over the country, right here in our home territory.”

For Jones Jr., being able to spend the past 10 years competing with his father is priceless. Especially since Jones Sr. plans on retiring from the pro circuit at the end of this season.

“It’s been an awesome, awesome time. You know, we’re definitely competitive,” said Jones Jr. “At my age, in my mid-thirties, not too many fathers-sons get to spend just a ton of time together, but we do and that’s something I cherish.”

Jones Sr. says that being back at Lake Whitney comes with all the memories he and Jones Jr. shared decades ago.

“There’s not a cove that I go into out here that I don’t remember, ‘Hey, I remember when Junior and I caught a four-pounder right over there,’ when he wrangled a goose right over there,” said Jones Sr. “Just all kinds of great, great fun memories here.”

If you want to catch MLF at Lake Waco this weekend, be prepared to wake up early. The anglers depart from Twin Bridges Park at 7:15 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, followed by a public watch party at the same park. If you can’t make it out, the whole event is live-streamed on the MLF website.
