Where did Texas A&M softball rank after the series win over LSU?

Texas A&M softball (19–9, 2–1 SEC) opened conference play with a statement, taking the first two games against LSU to secure a much‑needed series win. It’s exactly the kind of start head coach Trisha Ford hoped her group would earn after navigating a bruising nonconference slate designed to harden them for SEC play. Through the first two games, that preparation showed.

But Game 3 told a different story — and it’s one the Aggies will have to address quickly.

Once LSU’s staff made the decision to pitch around the red‑hot Mya Perez, A&M’s clutch hitting evaporated. The Aggies stranded 10 runners, loaded the bases three separate times, and came away with just one run. That simply won’t cut it in SEC play, especially when opponents now have a clear blueprint: avoid Perez and force someone else to beat them.

A series win is always the goal — and taking one from LSU makes it even sweeter — but the Aggies will need to dive into the film and find answers. Consistency at the plate can’t hinge on whether Perez gets pitched to.

The good news? The national polls still rewarded the weekend. All major softball rankings have Texas A&M firmly inside the Top 25 following the 2–1 series victory to open SEC play.

Texas A&M will host the Kentucky Wildcats in a series at Davis Diamond starting on Friday, March 20, at 6:00 p.m. CST. The game can be viewed on SEC Network+ and the ESPN App.
