UTSA college football kicker raises 2026 NFL Draft stock with insane Pro Day

· Yahoo Sports

The 2026 NFL Draft is full of college football studs, but UTSA kicker Jaffer Murphy is rising up draft boards after his unbelievable Pro Day.

College stars like Fernando Mendoza and Jeremiyah Love headline the 2026 draft. However, UTSA has its own standout special teams player entering April’s event that is starting to garner lots of attention.

On Wednesday, the UTSA kicker put together one of the most impressive non-quarterback Pro Days in recent memory. Murphy ran a 4.50 40-yard dash while also drilling 12 of 13 field goals in front of NFL scouts.

What happened at UTSA's Pro Day on Wednesday was insane, and I don't see anyone talking about it:

Kicker (!!) Jaffer Murphy was clocked as low as 4.47 in the 40-yard dash and made a 70-yard FG. He also made 12 of his 13 attempts.

Meanwhile, Murphy’s signature highlight from the UTSA Pro Day came when he drilled a 70-yard field goal. The current NFL record is 68 yards after Jacksonville Jaguars star Cam Little broke the mark during the 2025 season.

Although the UTSA kicker likely won’t be a first-round draft pick, more NFL teams are beginning to recognize the importance of the position. The Dallas Cowboys have a lethal weapon in the kicking game with Brandon Aubrey.

However, Murphy has the chance to become the sixth-ever kicker selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Sebastian Janikowski, Charlie Gogolak and Steve Little are three of the others that went early in drafts, but Gogolak is the only top-10 selection ever.

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly even made a “special trip” to visit Murphy’s Pro Day. Meanwhile, other NFL teams were in attendance to watch the future pro show off his leg.
