Moreau, who previously spent three seasons with the New Orleans Saints, recently told Texans All-Access that he knew that he'd be leaving this offseason and looking for a new team. When targeting his next roster, a vital importance to him was finding a leader who could resonate with his players.

Enter Ryans, perhaps the league's most player-friendly coach in the modern NFL. After one conversation, it was clear Moreau wanted to come to Houston.

“DeMeco seems awesome," Moreau said. "Strong handshake, strong personality & a strong leader for this team and this city. I got to work with [Texans offensive coordinator] Nick Caley when I was coming out & he’s always been someone I’ve wanted to work with closely. I had Jerry Schuplinski as well....he’s a great guy & great leader for our offense.”

A blocking tight end by trade, Moreau inked a two-year, $7 million deal with the Texans, setting himself up to be Ryans' No. 2 option in the passing game behind returning veteran starter Dalton Schultz. He can add value to the passing attack, but most of his success will come in blocking sets to help elevate the run game.

Everything this offseason was built around the premise of stabilizing the offense for quarterback C.J. Stoud. By adding Moreau, along with new running back David Montgomery and the multiple reinforcements made along the offensive line, it's a promising look for Stroud the continuity of the offense entering a prove-it year.

Ryans continues to connect with his players so that they want to stick around for the long haul. He's also making sure newcomers view Houston and its plan as a priority move for them on the market.
