The New York Mets have some figuring out to do.
Bo Bichette the third baseman might be a problem.
It was always going to be at least a little bit of a risk. The life-long shortstop was known to be a candidate to change positions when he hit free agency from the Toronto Blue Jays.
It sounded like many teams viewed him as a second baseman. But for the New York Mets, who secured his signature, he had to play third base since Marcus Semien had second already.
It's not going well.
Bichette's very first throw of the season pulled Jorge Polanco about five feet toward home plate, but with a slow runner, a tag could still be made.
On Saturday, Bichette had a throw similar that didn't get the out this time:

And while most Mets fans know this, it's still notable: Bichette hadn't played a single inning of third base in his major league career before this.
He wasn't a great shortstop defensively, but he was a shortstop.
At the end of last season, when Bichette came back from injury, the Blue Jays made him a second baseman.
There was nothing concrete to suggest that Bichette could get the job done at third base. And right now, his arm isn't.
The Mets are going to have to figure this out, whether it means moving guys around or simply helping Bichette improve in a hurry.
This team has championship aspirations, and its third baseman can't fire wide every time he throws.
