Chicken Licken has confirmed that an announcement about discontinuing their infamous rubber bands was merely an April Fool’s Day joke.

The fast food chain is one of several companies that have pranked the public with their 1st of April Fool’s Day gags.

CHICKEN LICKEN BACKTRACKS ON RUBBER BANDS STATEMENT

On its social media platforms, Chicken Licken confessed that its viral statement about discontinuing its rubber band packaging was just a joke.

“Holding your meals and your life together. Long live the rubber band. Happy April Fools!”, tweeted the salty chicken chain.

Their post comes hours after duping the public into believing that they had ditched their infamous 

The announcement was met with shock from the public, one of them being radio personality Anele Mdoda.

She said during her 947 breakfast show: “That’s my entire childhood. It’s not going to taste the same. The experience is the rubber band, the wings and the hot sauce. Once you take one out, the trifecta dies”.

Chicken Licken wasn’t the only one that tried to pull the wool over our eyes on the 1st of April.

Woolworths also ran an April Fool’s Day joke by advertising a genuine leather shopper bag. However, their prank backfired when consumers expressed interest in buying the item.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis innocently joked about joining Bafana Bafana as their new striker – just in time for the FIFA World Cup.

But the biggest upset was a prank about Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus ditching South Africa for a role managing the English rugby team.

But before the whole of Mzansi was struck by chest pains, Rassie reminded the country of the date in a tweet that read “1 April”.
