Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): State is likely to witness intense heat after April 15, with the Gwalior–Chambal region expected to be the hottest.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bhopal, the month will begin with strong winds and rain. An alert has been issued in about half of the state from April 1 to April 4. On Wednesday, weather alerts were issued in 29 districts including Indore, Ujjain and Gwalior.
In the next 24 hours, weather conditions may change in districts such as Gwalior, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Maihar, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, Anuppur, Agar-Malwa, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Sehore, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Khargone, Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar and Barwani.
The weather has remained unstable across the state for the past two days. Hail was reported in 12 districts, while more than 41 districts experienced strong winds and rain. On Tuesday, hailstorms occurred in Kukshi and Manawar areas of Dhar district, and several districts saw changing weather conditions during the night.
Despite the stormy conditions, temperatures remained high in some places. On Tuesday, Narmadapuram recorded 40.3°C. Khajuraho recorded 39.2°C, Ratlam and Naugaon 39°C, Damoh 39.1°C, while Khargone, Raisen and Umaria recorded around 38°C.
Among the state’s major cities, Bhopal and Jabalpur recorded 37°C, Indore and Gwalior recorded 36.6°C, and Ujjain recorded 36°C.
Weather experts said a cyclonic circulation and trough are currently active in the state. A western disturbance will also become active from April 2, which may bring strong winds and rain in some areas till April 4.
After this system weakens, temperatures are expected to rise quickly. Intense heat is likely during the second week of April. By the last week of the month, temperatures in Gwalior, Dhar, Khargone, Barwani, Naugaon and Khajuraho may reach 44–45°C.
Districts like Datia, Morena, Sheopur, Barwani, Khargone and Dhar may also see a sharp rise in temperature. Hot winds usually blow in the southern and western parts of the state during April, leading to severe heat.

In plain areas like most parts of Madhya Pradesh, heatwave conditions are considered when the maximum temperature crosses 40°C. In Gwalior, temperatures have crossed 45°C in recent years. Experts say similar heat conditions may occur this year as well.
