Falcons 1 of 12 NFL teams to host supersized WR prospect for workout

In a departure from their usual way of doing business, the Atlanta Falcons front office seems to be thinking locally when it comes to NFL draft prospects. In last year's draft they took Georgia Bulldogs star edge rusher Jalon Walker in Round 1, and this year they've been sniffing around several prospects from inside the state. A new NFL.com mock has them taking Georgia defensive tackle Christen Miller at No. 19 overall, for one example.

The local flavor includes supersized Georgia State wide receiver prospect Ted Hurst, who measured in at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds at the Scouting Combine. Hurst has the Falcons on his extensive list of teams to visit (12) before the draft. Today he will be visiting with the Miami Dolphins, followed by the Indianapolis Colts. Hurst also has the Minnesota Vikings and the Las Vegas Raiders on his itinerary, as well. This comes via a report from Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

The competition for Hurst is understandably fierce, as receivers with his rare combination of size and speed are always in high demand.

Hurst put those tools to good use at Georgia State, totaling 1,965 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns over the last two seasons after transferring from Valdosta State. Here's a look at some of his best work from the college level.

Interior defensive line and off-ball linebacker help also has to be on the menu, but if Hurst is still there when Atlanta is on the clock at No. 48 overall, the Falcons have to at least consider taking him. Hurst would in theory step into a significant WR2 role right away in Kevin Stefanski's offense, functioning as a much-needed Robin to Drake London's Batman.
