Broncos named a potential landing spot for 6-time All-Pro

Although it seems NFL free agency news has died down for the most part, there are still talented free agents on the market who could be ready at a moments' notice to jump into any team's lineup.

In a breakdown of one free agent every team could still sign, Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport recently postulated that the Denver Broncos could benefit by signing six-time All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner. Davenport believes Denver's linebacking corps could see a boost from the 14-year veteran.

"At this point in his 14-year professional career, Bobby Wagner isn't the force he once was—the 2025 season was just the second time the 35-year-old didn't make the Pro Bowl in well over a decade," Davenport wrote for B/R. "But the last time he failed to record 130 tackles in a season was also a decade ago, and he wasn't terrible in coverage in two years in Washington, posting a passer rating against under 90 both years. Wagner wouldn't be especially expensive, and the 10-time Pro Bowler would likely relish taking a run at a second Super Bowl win."

Wagner was part of the Seattle Seahawks' "Legion of Boom" defense which dismantled the Peyton Manning-led Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. Wagner has also proved to be a constant thorn in the Broncos' side: in his most recent game against Denver in 2025, Wagner picked off a Bo Nix pass as a member of the Washington Commanders. Nix would get the last laugh, winning a 27-26 primetime overtime thriller.

Carter Bahns of CBS Sports agreed with Davenport. Wagner's tackling prowess can be compared to Alex Singleton, and he is still a serviceable cover man. This combination may be intriguing, especially on a one-year deal.

"The Denver Broncos can be expected to draft an inside linebacker to fill out what is an aging group, but that doesn't have to stop them from bringing in another veteran in the interim," Bahns wrote for CBS. "Justin Strnad can step into that role, but why not raise the group's ceiling a bit higher by welcoming a perennial All-Pro? This defense is already elite and would remain Super Bowl-caliber if Wagner entered on a one-year deal."

While Wagner could be an interesting veteran option, Denver will most likely elect to continue their youth movement, either by slotting in pass-rusher Jonah Elliss into the inside linebacker role, or by selecting a newcomer in the 2026 NFL draft.

Either way, Broncos fans likely would love to see Wagner not be a stumbling block coming into one of the most anticipated seasons in Denver since 2014.
