Alex Steeves skated as the third line left winger, playing in his first game since March 16. He skated in 13 shifts for 10:13 of ice time.
The Bruins opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game. Viktor Arvidsson played the puck off the back boards, and Pavel Zacha pushed it back to the blue line. Hampus Lindholm picked up the puck and scored his first goal since January 27.
Andrei Svechnikov got the Hurricanes on the board at 10:04. He banked a wrap-around off Jonathan Aspirot’s skate and behind Swayman.
K’Andre Miller connected off a faceoff 94 seconds later, beating Swayman through a sea of bodies in front.
Then, Morgan Geekie scored his first goal since March 5, snapping a 17-game drought. He parked in front of the goal and teed off on a feed from David Pastrnak.

Morgan Geekie was not done after his two-goal first period.
Charlie McAvoy played it to Nikita Zadorov, who danced around the blue line and approached Bussi’s net. He steered a shot toward Bussi, and Geekie redirected it over Bussi’s blocker with 1:10 remaining in the second period.

Charlie McAvoy drove behind the net, and Pavel Zacha connected on a one-timer in the net-front to tie the game with 7:25 remaining in the third period. It is the first time Zacha has hit the 30-goal mark in his NHL career.
The game needed overtime, and by gaining at least one point, the Hurricanes clinched the Metropolitan Division. But Jaccob Slavin’s first goal of the season won it for the Hurricanes 73 seconds into the extra period.
The Bruins’ magic number is now two. They have three games remaining, and a few days off before the next one. They will play the Tampa Bay Lightning (48-24-6) on Saturday at 12:30 PM at the TD Garden.
