The Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos may have an offseason competition on their hands.

They both want to sign one of the top free agent running backs. But given that they're targeting the same RB, only one will come away happy.

Jacksonville Jaguars free agent back Travis Etienne is the target, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler in a new article on Sunday.

He writes that the AFC West rivals could both "check in" on Kenneth Walker, too, but refers to their pursuit of Etienne with the word "love."

Etienne seems unlikely to return to the Jags, and it makes sense for him to go to an offense where not only his rushing ability but also his receiving talents are valued.

Kansas City and Denver would both fit that mold.

The Chiefs have been lacking anything approaching competent RB play for a while, and Etienne would be a major way to fix that.

The Broncos have RJ Harvey heading into his second season after a promising rookie campaign, but most teams rely on two RBs in the modern NFL anyway.

Fowler writes in his article that the running back market will likely rise up to about $12 million per year at the top of the class this offseason. Walker and Etienne both have a case to be that highest-paid back.

The Chiefs have already done some big offseason restructuring and parting ways in order to free up cap space.

The Broncos, still with a QB on a rookie deal, have that working in their favor as they look to sign a pricey running back.

Etienne would certainly be a fun addition to the AFC West. It'll have huge consequences if he chooses one of these teams.
