As part of the team's ongoing quest to be a permanent thorn in the side of every fantasy football player, the Falcons opted for some additional running back depth on March 24 when they agreed to a deal with Brian Robinson Jr. in free agency, according to multiple reports.

The running back will get a one-year deal worth $2.5 million, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Obviously, one Robinson with a single-digit jersey number wasn't enough for Atlanta, who will pair Brian with Bijan Robinson in Kevin Stefanski's offense. It's a move that is guaranteed to confuse people all season long, especially as fantasy drafts get underway in the summer.

Regardless, the new Robinson in Atlanta should step in as a short-yardage back who also receives work around the goal line, similar to the role that Tyler Allgeier held previously. He provides quality depth the room desperately lacked.

Here's what to know about Robinson's contract and how he fits in Atlanta.

Brian Robinson Jr. contract details

Here's how Robinson's new contract with the Falcons looks, by the numbers:

  • Term: One year
  • Total contract value: $2.5 million

Brian Robinson Jr. stats

Robinson is set to enter his fifth NFL season after spending three with the Commanders and one with the 49ers. In 58 games, the running back tallied 735 touches, 3,341 scrimmage yards and 22 total touchdowns.

If nothing else, the 2022 third-round pick should be fresh heading into the 2026 season. He played behind Christian McCaffrey in 2025 after Washington dealt the running back to San Francisco.

Robinson saw a drastic drop in workload with the 49ers, totaling 92 carries for 400 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

How does Brian Robinson Jr. fit with the Falcons?

Robinson figures to play a complementary role in the Atlanta backfield. He should fill the spot vacated by Allgeier, who signed with the Arizona Cardinals in free agency.

The Falcons backfield is far from a committee, although it is unclear how Stefanski plans to deploy both Brian and Bijan in the new-look offense. At the very least, Robinson provides depth behind the star at the top of the depth chart. The former Commander and 49er has starting experience in the pros, which could be leaned on if necessary.
